Why One Low Testosterone Result Is Not a Diagnosis

Testosterone varies within the same person. A single result cannot carry the full weight of diagnosis, cause and treatment decisions.

Why the distinction matters

One result is a snapshot of a system that moves. When a decision as consequential as long-term therapy rests on a single measurement, the variation in the measurement becomes part of the decision — whether or not anyone accounts for it.

What the sources actually studied

  • Published research documents meaningful within-person and day-to-day variation.
  • Repeat measurement can materially change classification.
  • Biological variation is one reason guidelines require confirmation.
